Jean Oh is currently pursuing a Doctor of Medicine (MD) at the University of British Columbia, with an expected graduation in 2026. Previously. she completed a Bachelor of Science (Honours) at the University of British Columbia.
Her research experience spans bench-based experiments to large-scale clinical data analysis, reflecting her commitment to translating research into meaningful clinical applications. Jean Oh integrates pathophysiological insights, epidemiological analysis, technology, and direct patient engagement to enhance patient care and disease understanding. Her research include:
- Patient engagement and access to care:
- Leading a UBC Community-University Engagement Support (CUES)-funded project at the Downtown Eastside Eye Clinic, collaborating with Indigenous patients to identify and address barriers and facilitators of eye care. - Ophthalmic disease research:
- Investigating OCT findings in AMD vs. PCV to refine diagnostic differentiation.
- Exploring ocular manifestations of Alzheimer’s disease and their underlying pathophysiology.
- Collaborating on neuro-ophthalmology research at the University of Toronto, focusing on papilledema etiology and vision loss in giant cell arteritis. - Artificial intelligence and patient education:
- Evaluating the role of ChatGPT in ophthalmology to optimize patient education on retinal diseases.
Jean Oh welcomes interdisciplinary collaboration, particularly with researchers who bridge direct patiet care and research. Additionally, as she aims to expand her skills in qualitative research, she is eager to collaborate with experts in this field to better integrate patient perspectives and lived experiences into ophthalmic care improvement initiatives.
In her free time, you’ll likely find Jean capturing moments with her film camera or shaping clay on the pottery wheel. Jean also loves to hike with her rescue dog, Ole.
