Yuki Sio received a Master of Public Health (MPH) from Simon Fraser University, Canada (2021-2023) and a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from National Taiwan University in Taiwan (2004-2011). She is a board-certified ophthalmologist with over 10 years of clinical experience in glaucoma, retinal diseases, cataracts, dry eye syndrome, and uveitis.
Sio is specialized in ophthalmology, public health, health economics and outcome evaluation. Recently, Sio has been working on:
- CanProCo study: A 5-year prospective cohort study to understand the progression of multiple sclerosis by collecting data from the fields of epidemiology, health outcomes, health economics, health service utilization, neuroimaging and neuroimmunology.
- Early Health Technology Assessment (eHTA): A platform using health economics methods (cost-effectiveness analysis) to evaluate new health technology in the early product life cycle and estimate the potential value of proposed health technology.
- The Impact of COVID-19 on Hepatitis C: To understand the impact of COVID-19 on hepatitis C service to improve hepatitis C care policy.
Given Sio's clinical and public health background, her work and experience will be enhanced by combining knowledge in ophthalmology with vision science and health economics.
Sio enjoys hiking on the Burnaby Mountain with her 6-year-old son and she enjoys travelling to Japan because she loves sushi and ramen.
