Melodie Lu BSc

Melodie Lu is the Research and Outreach Project Facilitator for the Vision Research Cluster at the University of British Columbia, where she works closely with Cluster lead Dr. Joanne Matsubara to coordinate research, funding, and engagement across the group.

Before joining the Cluster, Melodie co-founded and served as Managing Director of a biotech startup, where she managed the full grant and contract lifecycle and negotiated research agreements and licensing deals across Canada, the US, and Asia. Prior to that, she spent several years in academic-industry research administration, including a role as Director of Operations at a Vancouver drug development company, where she secured funding to support a growing team of researchers, postdocs, and co-op students.

Melodie's background spans grant strategy, contract negotiation, and IP licensing, alongside experience coordinating across academic, industry, and investor stakeholders. In her role with the Cluster, she supports funding opportunities, community engagement, and training and mentorship pathways for trainees, and is a resource for researchers exploring new licensing or IP ideas.

Melodie holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of British Columbia and a Certificate of Biotechnology Project Management from the University of Washington.
