Dr. Etminan is an epidemiologist and an Associate Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences and the Department of Medicine. Dr. Etminan received his Master of Science degree in Epidemiology from the University of Toronto and his PharmaD from Idaho State University. He completed his post-doctoral fellowship at McGill University. His area of research focuses on ocular epidemiology and drug safety using large population-based databases. In recent years, he has also taken a keen interest in the science of causation. His areas of expertise are epidemiology, big data, drug safety, and causal inference. If Dr. Etminan could work with another type of researcher, he would collaborate with a clinical researcher or basic scientist. As an epidemiologist, he is interested in testing different hypotheses from clinical or basic science research in large populations.
Dr. Etminan has published close to 200 publications some of which have appeared in journals such as JAMA, JAMA Ophthalmology, BMJ, Lancet Public Health and International Journal of Epidemiology.
Results from his studies have also been used by the FDA, Health Canada and the European Medicines Agency in issuing worldwide safety alerts.
