Jenny Lee is a third-year Integrated Science undergraduate student at the University of British Columbia. She began volunteering as an undergraduate researcher in September 2025 and is currently a Summer Research Student in the Faculty of Medicine’s Multidisciplinary Research Program in Medicine, working in the Matsubara Lab under the supervision of Dr. Matsubara and Dr. Yoo.
Her research focuses on the pathophysiology of wet age-related macular degeneration and subretinal fibrosis, with particular interest in the roles of proteases and immune cell populations, including mast cells and natural killer cells. Through her work, Jenny uses techniques such as immunohistochemistry, immunocytochemistry, confocal imaging and quantitative image analysis to investigate cellular and molecular changes associated with retinal disease.
In addition to her research, Jenny supports science communication and outreach by helping manage the Matsubara Lab and Vision Research Cluster websites and social media accounts. In this role, she creates accessible science content, shares research updates and promotes upcoming events to engage broader academic and public audiences.
Outside of research, Jenny enjoys dancing, playing the violin and trying out new restaurants around Vancouver.
