Arya Uppal

Arya Uppal is a UBC student with interests in vision science, retinal imaging, and the use of artificial intelligence in eye care. She recently completed a student research project with Medicine for Youth focused on AI-assisted retinal imaging for the detection of diabetic retinopathy. She is also gaining clinical experience as an optometric intern, where she is learning more about patient care, eye health, and the field of optometry. These experiences have strengthened her interest in retinal disease, imaging technologies, and how AI can support earlier diagnosis and improve patient care. Arya hopes to continue developing her research and clinical experience as she works toward a future career in optometry. She is especially interested in opportunities to collaborate with retinal imaging specialists and AI or machine learning researchers to further explore how these technologies can be applied in vision care.
