New review by Dr. Joanne Matsubara and colleagues improves our understanding of the mechanisms that drive AMD pathogenesis. This review paper, "Purinergic signaling via P2X receptors and mechanisms of unregulated ATP release in the outer retina and age-related macular degeneration", explores the interactions between purinergic signalling, ATP release, and known contributors to AMD pathogenesis including complement dysregulation and inflammasome activation. This work is published in Frontiers in Neuroscience. Dr. Matsubara is the Lead of the Research Excellence Cluster and a faculty member in Subcluster 1: Molecular, Cellular and Eye.
