Masks in Crowds: How Face Coverings Influence the Way We Interpret Emotions

Congratulations to Dr. Hee Yeon Im for her contribution to the research article, "The effect of masks on the emotion perception of a facial crowd" published in Scientific Reports. This work shows that under ambiguous social situations in which individuals’ emotions are partially hidden by masks, a large group may provide stronger social cues than a small group, thereby promoting communication and regulating social behaviors. Dr. Im is a faculty member of Subcluster 3: Brain Imaging and Artificial Intelligence.
