PITFALLS AND POTENTIAL: INTEGRATING GENERATIVE AI INTO YOUR RESEARCH AND SCHOLARSHIP

February 15, 2024, 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm

Generative AI is rapidly transforming both what we study and how we conduct our research and scholarly activities. But without established protocols around its use, integrating it can feel a bit like we’re building the plane as we fly it.

As researchers and scholars, are there parameters and best practices we should consider? How can we access and use these tools to our advantage, while avoiding potential pitfalls?

Join UBC’s Dr. Jeff Clune (Canada CIFAR AI Chair and faculty member of the Vector Institute, senior research advisor at DeepMind and associate professor in Computer Science) in conversation with Dr. Gail Murphy (Vice-President, Research & Innovation and professor in Computer Science) on February 15, 2024.

They will address research-related questions, including:

  • How to access generative AI tools for research and scholarly activities
  • When is it acceptable to provide data into a generative AI tool?
  • Is it allowed and scientifically ethical to use these tools?
  • What are our ethical obligations when using them?
  • What are the pitfalls to consider when using these tools?
  • What is the potential of generative AI for scholars and researchers?
